Happy Birthday MLK!

Despite our two hour delay this Monday
(which is always a great way to start the week)
I was able to get in some of my Martin Luther King Jr. Activities.

MLK has got to be one of my favorite historical figures to talk about in 1st grade.
I love the way the kids relate to the change that was made through MLK.
This year with out "Even Though We Are Tiny We Can Do Big Things" campaign I think the story of MLK has that much of a greater meaning to our students.

We are constantly talking about being a friend and making food decisions. I love the way my kids participated in conversations this week and how passionate they grew for what MLK did.

It was all about saying Happy Birthday to MLK in our room!!

These books came out so cute! We discussed MLK in many different ways in many different books. In my MLK mini unit you will find the sequence cards and a mini book highlighting major events in MLK's life. These items are great for recall and sequencing MLK major events.

My kiddos loved sharing their books with each other and friends at home!!!

Here are a few of the books I used to discuss MLK!

How do you celebrate MLK??

Visit my TPT store for my Mini Unit
and how about a little Freebie ??

A little bonus ...

My kids and I love Kid President!!
He has been a huge inspiration in so many ways.
Check out his video and consider using it in the future to help you celebrate and share the story of Martin Luther King Jr.
