Fun is Raining Down!

My first full week and I have to say I will take the rain over snow ...
now bring on the warmer weather!
This week was all about the rain and ducks.

We read the story Five Little Ducks from our reading unit.
This story was used to increase recognition about numbers and retell.
Take a look at this cute retell activity we completed ... inspired by A Spoonful of Learning.

Students loved putting these ducks in order and retelling the story.
Such a great way to review vocabulary, sequence events, and retell!
The craft went home and was reinforced for homework sharing the story with someone at home.

Sticking with the duck theme we worked on a writing craftivity as well all about ducks and rain.
We read I Love Rainy Days to build our Schema.
Here are a whole bunch of great books to read to get students thinking about rainy days!

As a group we brainstormed all different things we do when it rains outside and used this super cute craft to write what we like to do on a rainy day.
I am super proud of my kiddos, they worked so hard!

I love the way these all came out so different!

Of course we couldn't go without learning some facts about ducks.
During our library time this week we used Pebblego to learn some facts about ducks.
Together we collaborated and recorded information about ducks.
Students were hard at work and they compiled some great answers.

In math this week we worked on number models.
Blueberries for Sal was a recommended read aloud for one of our units.
A super cute story about a little girl who goes to pick blueberries with her mother. She picks a few, and eats a few more. The pattern continues through various scenes in the book. A great way to talk about adding and subtracting.

Take a look at the way we incorporated the story into representing a number model!
Students did a great job!

To continue our adding and subtracting we dressed like frogs and hopped the number line.
I made a mask for students to use and they hopped up and down the number line on lily pads.

We had one partner roll the dice to tell us how many hops to make and then other partner had to solve the addition or subtraction problem through their hopping on the number line.
So CUTE!

A new month also means a new act of kindness.
This month we are collecting pop tabs and donating them to the Ronald McDonald House in our area.

These acts continue to amaze me and the involvement in always plentiful!
We try to differentiate our philanthropic endeavors so that all students can donate.

Wow! We are already stocked and have over two containers full.
I can't wait to see how much we end up with by the end of the month.
Feel free to drop off donations in the main office if you are interested in contributing to our Monthly Act of Kindness!
