Apples Apples Everywhere

You know Fall has officially begun when your plans include Apples!

This week I combined our unit about our body and the five senses with Apples
What a great combination!
This week we explored apples using our 5 senses

Our book for this unit was From Head to Toe by Eric Carle

This book was so cute and encouraged students explore different parts of their body and how it worked in reference to animals.

Then students labeled ME

They got a kick out of this activity
Each student came up with a different body part, I wrote on the post it and students labeled me

Then we labeled Johnny Applseed

We then of course built to our Apple schema before diving into apples
Students did a great job brainstorming all they already knew about apples.

Here is a great list of books to share with your kids:)

I love fun anchor charts and this one came out adorable ...

We then worked on using our five senses to describe apples

Then we used First Grade Parades Investigating Apples 5 Senses Worksheet

They came out so cute and students really enjoyed finding words from our Anchor Chart to write on their paper.

This week we even ventured into a day of Apple Investigations.
I love this unit and have done it with first grade students in the past.
This year it was modified a bit but my Kindergartners love it just as much!

Such a busy day we were unable to get pictures but students explored the height, weight, circumference,  density, and inside of an apple.
So FUN!

We can't go through an apple unit without the obvious apple window craft

My kids had never been exposed to contact paper before and they just loved how the project worked. It was a great way to stimulate their senses and get those creative juices flowing with patterns and colors. These apples look great in our room!

To end the week we had a tasting party!

Students brought in:
Apples
Carmel Dip
Apple Butter
Apple Chips
Apple Donuts
Apple Muffins
Apple Juice
Apple Jacks
Apple Sauce

We used this worksheet to respond to each item after we tasted it
Then students wrote their names on apples and graphed which item they liked the most.

To sum it all up we made these apple crafts!

What a fun week!
And now the leaves are changing ... the weather is getting cooler ... fall is definitely in the air!
