Even Though We Are Tiny We Can Do Big Things!

The beginning of the school year we always take time to talk about Bully Prevention.
Signs are posted throughout the school and teachers are encouraged to talk to students about Bully Prevention. The guidance counselor comes to talk with students and blue chains are hung around the school with messages from each students about how they will not bully others.

This got me thinking ....

Bully Prevention shouldn't be given one day but should be a constant reminder.

It't not about what we shouldn't do but about what we CAN do to make a difference and be a friend to others.

I am a huge fan of Kid President and love his messages.
If you don't know about him ... you need to see his videos on youtube!
He is an amazing little man with great pep talks:)

Anyway .......
Kid President gave a pep talk in the month of October with Grover ... OMG so cute!!!!
They asked everyone to collect socks to donate to the homeless and he called it "Socktober".
Simple right!!

This inspired me and another teacher in my building.
We took on the challenge and asked our students and their families to bring in socks!

Socktober grew into something we never thought imaginable! We collected over 1,000 pairs of socks and donated them to 4 different shelters around our area. Students were ecstatic and the good deeds spread throughout our school.

The efforts from Socktober were too great. We could't stop there!!!

November we collected canned and non-perishable foods and donated them again to shelters in our area. The Turkey stood proud in our foyer and was filled with feathers displaying what students were thankful for.

Help us Feed our Turkey!

Students loved our "Turkey-meter" and were excited to see how full the turkey was getting. We exceeded our goal yet again by hundreds.

At this point all of the faculty starting getting more involved and the ideas began flying ....

"Baby It's Cold Outside"
For the month of December we collected hats, mittens, and scarves and donated them to students in a less fortunate school district. They might not have been the presents you thought under the tree but showed students warm hearts!

This month we are focusing on the "Bare Necessities"
YES the Jungle Book song is our theme.
Sometimes we take those bare necessities for advantage.

This huge structure stands in our school foyer and will be decorated each month as something new.
Students, Faculty, and Staff are excited each month to see the new design and are happy to be giving something to those in need.

Our motto is "Even Though We Are Tiny, We Can Do BIG Things!"

Each month we try to collect something worth $1. Something that is attainable for the students and their families to donate. We are a district that runs the gamut and want all students to feel that they can participate.

The hope that this project would spread love and happiness in our building and that it is.
I can't say that it is an easy task to complete each month but I highly encourage any Acts of Kindness in your school, especially ones the kids can take control of!
